"Bridging the gap between police and citizens"

Class #1

Class #2

Class #3

MISSION:

The goal of the Citizen Police Academy (CPA) is to educate the citizens of Jaffrey with the operation of their police department while obtaining valuable feedback from those citizens.

The Citizen Police Academy is not intended to serve as accredited law enforcement courses but merely to provide insight to the internal workings of the police department.

WHAT IS IT?

The Jaffrey Police Department Citizen Police Academy is a 39-hour block of instruction designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Jaffrey Police Department's personnel and policies.  It consists of a series of thirteen classes, held once each week for three hours.  The instruction is comprehensive, covering a different area of the police department and justice system each week.  Officers, supervisors, and personnel assigned to that particular function conduct each instructional block.  Presentations from other agencies and tours of different facilities may also take place.

Classes will include topics such as: Narcotics and Drug information, Criminal Procedures, Officer Survival, Defensive Tactics, Firearms, Search/Seizure, Crime Scene Processing, Radar and Patrol Enforcement, DWI Recognition, Community Policing and other related classes.

THE PURPOSE:

The Jaffrey Citizen Police Academy was created in order to provide enough information to the citizens that attend so that they may make informed judgments about the police department and police activity.  It is further hoped that the instruction will increase police awareness whereas to dispel suspicions and misconceptions and to increase police/community rapport through this educative process.  The department in turn, becomes more aware of the feelings and concerns of the community from the students' interaction and input.  It is, indeed, a two-way learning experience.

WHO MAY ATTEND?

The class is made up of a cross-section of the Jaffrey Community and surrounding towns.  Doctors, merchants, homemakers, laborers, students, secretaries, salespersons and others are encouraged to apply for admission. The minimum age for enrollment is 21 years of age.  Applicants must not have a criminal record, must complete the application and pass a basic background investigation.  There is no fee to attend the Citizen Police Academy
