 AWARDS and COMMENDATIONS PROGRAM

 

Officer Of The Year

Purpose: Officer of the Year will be awarded to that officer who has set himself above the rest with his/her performance, inside and outside of the department. This officer has strived to maintain the highest level of motivation, consistency and professionalism.

Patriot

Purpose: Patriot will be awarded for dedication for the defense and protection of the United States Flag.

Medal of Valor

 Purpose: The Medal of Valor is awarded to members of the department who, while acting in an official capacity, distinguish themselves conspicuously by heroic action above and beyond the call of duty. Criteria for recommendation may be based on the following:

1. The situation was extremely dangerous;

2. A strong possibility existed that the employee could have suffered serious injury or death;

3. The act was not foolhardy;

4. The employee did not use poor judgment or procedures, which created the necessity for his/her acts.

Life Saving

Purpose: The Life Saving Medal is awarded to members of the department who, while acting in an official capacity, perform significant life saving measures on an individual. The life saving measures, not the outcome is the determining factor.

Distinguished Service

Purpose: The Distinguished Service Medal is awarded to members of the department for exemplary conduct and excellence in performance of civic responsibilities, for unselfish devotion to his/her fellow man and the community, which he/she serves. And whose actions have been such as to bring honor to himself/herself and recognition to the Department.

 

Meritorious Commendation

Purpose: The Meritorious Commendation will be awarded to members of the department for outstanding police work, for example:

1. Superior handling of a difficult situation;

2. Conspicuous bravery;

3. Superior performance of duty

4. Any contribution to the department, which is of a superior nature.

 

Community Service

Purpose: The Community Service Medal will be awarded to members of the department who have gone above and beyond their normal course of duties and provided excellent service to the community.

Education Medal

Purpose: The Education medal is awarded to members of the department who have furthered their education and obtained at least 60 college credits.
