  • Jaffrey has a strong reputation as a business friendly community. Town officials are well known for supporting commercial and industrial growth. 
  • Three areas in Town are zoned for Industrial Development and the Downtown area includes the Commercial and General Business District.  Industrial Districts include: Stone Arch Bridge; Drumlin Industrial Park; Knight St (maps and information). 
  • The Town has made significant investments in the water and sewer infrastructure, and continues to expand service to the Industrial Districts.

  • We have a manufacturing-based economy, creating some 1,200 jobs in goods production, and an additional 1,100 jobs in the service and government sectors.  The Town favors 24 hour operations, encourages a strong employee work ethic, and supports excellent regional educational systems through Conant High School (SAU 47) and Applied Technology Center.   • Centrally located, with good highways and local roads, Jaffrey is easily accessible to the region’s larger cities and airports.    It is less than 45 miles to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport; 60 miles to Worcester and 75 miles to Boston.

  • Jaffrey is the home of Mt. Monadnock; the State Park receives more than 100,000 visitors a year and is a National Natural Landmark.
  • D. D. Bean & Sons, the largest manufacturer of paper book matches in the U.S., is located in Jaffrey.
  • Atlas Pyrovision Productions, headquartered on Old Sharon Road in Jaffrey, has won competitions throughout the world for its dazzling fireworks displays.
  • New England Wood Pellet, also headquartered on Old Sharon Road, is the largest wood pellet manufacturer in the United States.
  • Zilkha Biomass – research and development of electricity co-generation facilities has partnered with NE Wood Pellets for the first commercial installation of Zilkha's direct-fired, wood-fuel gas turbine power plant. 

 

Planning & Development

Development activities that involve new construction, a change of use, or external impacts, are subject to the Site Plan Review process. Applications are reviewed by the Building Inspector and Planning Director for completeness. The Fire Department, Police Department, and the Department of Public Works, are involved in the approval process. The Planning Board begins consideration of an accepted application within 30 days of its submission. The Board will act upon the accepted application within 65 days of submission (approve, conditionally approve, or disapprove). Submission and acceptance of an application occurs at regular meetings of the Planning Board, which meets at 7:00 pm on the second Tuesday of every month. The Zoning Board of Adjustment meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm.
